All joking aside with that last reel, this is the most recent sculpture I finished. No title yet and it still needs a hanging mechanism so that it can mounted on the wall. But, I’m really loving the floppiness of these extruded coils in contrast to the 3D printed elements.

Here is another piece I made at @watershedceramics this summer. @camilafgceramics printed the orb on her adorable clay printer (thank you!). Bright blue resistors completed the sculpture.

School starts next week, and I’m thinking about all that happened this summer- east coast travels, seeing art, making art, Watershed residency, garden, yard, family, dog. I’m grateful.

Sometimes I need to support my sculptures in the weirdest ways in order to glue the resistors in place. I don’t know if this is an industrial dish rack or something you roast a turkey on, but it (with a vintage 80’s T) is the perfect cradle for this baby. WIP

I know you’re not supposed to have favorites, but this guy is winning my heart right now. I’m building a new body of work combining 3D-printed and hand-built and/or extruded clay with, (OF COURSE), resistors! These resistors are super rare- a gorgeous burnt orange color that I dare to use on only rare occasions.

I have been waiting MONTHS to fill these holes with resistors! This piece Will ultimately be a wall-mounted sculpture. I’m deciding if it’s done of if it should have scraggly entrails hanging out of the bottom, like the piece in the last photo. Thoughts? Answer the poll!

A room of one’s own. So critical to the creative process. Two days of cleaning, clearing, and organizing to get my home studio in shape. It’s not perfect, but it’ll do until I can build out a new space (hopefully). I’m now ready to get to work!

Still wrapping my head around the past two weeks- time filled with amazing people, intelligence, and generosity. Thanks again to all the people who printed clay for me. I’m very excited about these new techniques. Thanks to all at @watershedceramics for feeding us and providing stunning facilities. This experience will remain with me for some time. So, we made some serious rounds today and saw some art. I have to be honest- not as good as last time. The highlight was definitely Lisa Yuskavage. I’ve always loved her unabashed depictions of the female body. Round tummies, boobies going very which way. In fact, I would just like to say that I appreciate all the unharnessed boobs I’ve seen in NY. I hate bras and it’s been a welcome relief to let loose.

It’s been a minute. In fact, I deleted instagram from my phone because my algorithms are dumb and kept feeding me the death and destruction that our pathetic wannabe cowboy “leaders” have been executing like life is some kind of video game.
Anyway. I’m back briefly to share some good things. Like a piece I’m finishing for the upcoming SF Art Fair. More details on that soon.
Also, if you haven’t yet been to the @paloaltoartcenter to see the Vessels of Change exhibition you have until TOMORROW to get your butts there to see it. It’s a beautiful group show with a lot of folks I admire and I’m proud to be part of it.

These two oddballs are currently in a show, “Clay Sustains: Vessels of Change” at the Palo Alto Art Center. I attended the reception last night and it was such a delight to meet some of the other artists - @dharmamaccoll @shiyuanxu129 @kalasteindesign @larisa_usich
Thank you to Rina Faletti @art_responds for including me in the show. To @kienzle.karen and @chuche__x for being part of the process. I humbly state that it’s a gorgeous, thoughtful show that I’m honored to be part of. Each artist considers the environment and sustainability in unique ways.

It’s been a looooong time since I’ve posted anything besides political bs. But I’m still here. Honestly, I haven’t made a whole lot since returning from Japan. I’ve learned to honor these down times because I need them. But it feels weird in an art world that expects you to create endlessly. I’ve been working on other things- things that don’t have any real tangible results just yet. Reworking my website, which I hate doing in the moment, but I’m grateful for when I see the results. I’ve also been applying to a lot of things (and getting more rejections than invitations, but that’s the way things go. And you just keep going).

It’s been a looooong time since I’ve posted anything besides political bs. But I’m still here. Honestly, I haven’t made a whole lot since returning from Japan. This summer has been so sweet, with an incredible trip to Japan that culminated in a group show at @koumimachikougen_museum_of_art with really lovely artists, a quick backpacking trip near Truckee, art gallery and museum visits, and landscaping the front yard.
But sadly it’s all coming to an end as the new semester begins on Monday.

I’m going to do a once-a-month post for #throwbackthursday showcasing artwork I still have in my possession, but hopefully not for long. And I’ll tell you how they can be yours.

Still trying to wrap my jet lagged brain around my month in Japan. Two weeks of fun travel followed by another 3 of intensive installation work in Koumi. I met so many wonderful people at the museum and in the community, plus my amazing cohort of artists!

I haven’t yet mentioned the installation I did with vintage apple crates- a by-product of a local industry. These post WWII objects were repurposed for desks, chairs, and bookshelves. Plus, Tadoa Ando did a giant apple sculpture, so the history and links to these beautiful objects are very rich.
We did a workshop at Koumi elementary during which I asked the students to ask their future selves a question. They could respond in words and/or pictures directly on the crates. @libblack had the kids draw pictures of local butterflies and we combined the two results. The title of the installation was taken directly from one of the students questions: What will the starry sky look like in 30 years?
(Smart and poetic kid!!)

Oh, and nightly painting and drawing (the Miffy can) and hilarious (and sometimes serious) conversations around the dining table!

Thank you for the experience of a lifetime!
